A fluorescent reagent with a terminal amine for derivatization. 1,5-EDANS has similar spectral properties to the naphthalenesulfonic acids. EDANS is one of the most popular donors for developing FRET-based nucleic acid probes (such as Molecular Beacons) and protease substrates. EDANS is often paired with DABCYL or DABSYL in FRET-based probes. Its fluorescence is environment-sensitive. Synonym: 1,5-EDANS, 5-2-aminoethyl amino naphthalene-1-sulfonic acid,1,5-edans,5-2-aminoethylamino-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid, edans,5-2-aminoethylamino-1-naphthalene sulfonic acid, 5-2-aminoethylamino naphthalene-1-sulfonic acid, n-aminoethyl-5-naphthylamine-1-sulfonic acid CAS No: 50402-56-7 Molecular Formula: C12H14N2O3S Molecular Weight: 266.32 Purity: 95% Appearance: Off-white solid Melting Point: >300C (dec.)
