Neutrophils primary role is to destroy foreign particles by phagocytosis or release of bacteriostatic agents. Serine proteinase neutrophil elastases are stored in azurophilic granules located inside the neutrophils and aid the neutrophil in thwarting foreign entities. Activity: ~20-22 units/mg protein. Unit Definition: One unit is defined as the amount of enzyme that hydrolyzes one umole of MeO-Suc-Ala-Ala-Pro-Val-pNA per minute at 25C, pH 8.0. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized and reconstituted products are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O or buffer. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
