FGF-16 is a heparin-binding growth factor that is a member of the FGF family. Proteins of this family play a central role during prenatal development, postnatal growth and regeneration of a variety of tissues, by promoting cellular proliferation and differentiation. FGF-16 signals through FGFR 2c and 3c. FGF-16 plays a role in the development of the central nervous system. Recombinant human FGF-16 is a 23.6kD protein consisting of 206 amino acid residues. Molecular Weight: ~23.6kD Biological Activity: Determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of thymidine uptake by BaF3 cells expressing FGF receptors. The expected ED50 is 0.5ng/ml corresponding to a specific activity of 2x10e6 units/mg. Reconstitute with sterile PBS. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
