E. coli Beta-Galactosidase is an inducible tetrameric enzyme coded by the lac Z gene of the lac operon that is often used as a reporter to assess the efficiency of transfection. It is a metalloenzyme that splits lactose into glucose and galactose. It hydrolyzes terminal, non-reducing beta-D-galactose residues in beta-D-galactosides. Source: Purified protein from E. coli Molecular Weight: ~540kD Specific Activity: > 600U/mg protein. Unit Definition: One unit hydrolyses 1umole of p-nitrophenol-b-D-galactoside to p-nitrophenol/minute at 37C. Protein Content: ~20-25% of total weight Applications: Suitable for use in Functional Assays. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized and reconstituted products may be stored at -20C. Stable for 6 months after receipt at -20C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
