| IPTG is a carbohydrate used to induce b-galactosidase for the selection of recombinant plasmids. Used to select for lac Y mutants and to induce the lac operon in E. coli. IPTG will also induce the cellular content of lactose permease. It is used in conjunction with X-Gal or Bluo-Gal in blue-white selection of recombinant bacterial colonies that induce expression of the lac operon in E. coli. Synonyms: IPTG, Isopropyl-ß-D-thiogalactopyranoside, Isopropyl-ß-D-thiogalactoside CAS No: 367-93-1 Molecular Formula: C9H18O5S Molecular Weight: 238.31 Purity: 99% Appearance: White crystalline or powder Identity (IR): Conforms to structure pH (5%): 5.0-7.0 Solubility: Colorless, clear, complete Dioxane: Not Detected Specific Rotation (C=1,H2O): -29 to -35 Melting Point: 110-114C Water (KF): 1% Blue-White Assay: Induces b-galactosidase in a pUC 18-containing strain.
