Maltose Phosphorylase belongs to the family of glycosyltransferases, specifically the hexosyltransferases. The systematic name of this enzyme class is maltose:phosphate 1-beta-D-glucosyltransferase. This enzyme participates in starch and sucrose metabolism. Maltose: orthophosphate glucosyltransferase (EC 2.4.1.8) Maltose + Pi = Glucose + b-glucose-1-phosphate. In enzymology, a maltose phosphorylase (EC 2.4.1.8) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction: maltose + phosphate D-glucose + beta-D-glucose 1-phosphate Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are maltose and phosphate, whereas its two products are D-glucose and beta-D-glucose 1-phosphate. Source: Enterococcus sp. recombinant, expressed in E. coli Synonym: Maltose:orthophosphate 1-beta-D-Glucosyltransferase CAS No: 9030-19-7 Molecular Weight: 90kD Appearance: Supplied as a lyophilized powder. Unit Definition: One unit will produce 1umole of D-Glucose from maltose per minute at pH 7.0 at 30C. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4C. For long-term storage, aliquot and store at -20C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
