Peptone Water is a broth medium used for the detection of indole and carbohydrate fermentation patterns of non-fastidious organisms. Peptone Water is a minimal growth medium which is used for determining carbohydrate fermentation capabilities. Recommended Dilutions: Carbohydrate Fermentation Study: 1% final carbohydrate concentration with phenol red (0.018g/L) indicator and Durham tube. After incubation a yellow broth with or without gas bubbles indicates a positive fermentation reaction. Indole Test: Place an indole test strip 10mm above a 24-48 hr. broth culture. Reincubate for 5-30 minutes. A violet red color on the test strip indicates a positive reaction. Storage and Stability: Store unopened medium at 2-30C. Store opened medium container in a low humidity environment at 2-30C. Store liquid medium at 4C. The powder medium should be discarded if it is not free flowing or if the color has changed from the original light beige color. Appearance: Light beige, homogeneous, free flowing powder Solubility: Gold to amber, clear to turbid to clear.. pH: 7.2 0.2 Microbiological Analysis:Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922): Growth Salmonella typhimurium (ATCC 14028): Growth Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923): Growth Important Note: This product as supplied is intended for research use only, not for use in human, therapeutic or diagnostic applications without the expressed written authorization of United States Biological.
