| All-trans-retinol is a form of vitamin A that is an important component of the visual system and helps maintain healthy skin. Retinol is found in many animal products and can be taken as a dietary supplement. Retinol can react with other chemicals to form all-trans-retinoic acid, which has been shown to inhibit the growth of human carcinoma cells in culture by binding to the ATP binding cassette transporter.
