Coagulation Factor III (F3), or Tissue Factor (TF), initiates blood coagulation by forming a complex with circulating factor VII or VIIa. The [TF:VIIa] complex critically activates factors IX or X through limited proteolysis, initiating the coagulation cascade on the cell surface. F3s interaction with HSPE, inhibited by heparin, promotes the generation of activated factor X, emphasizing its central role in regulating hemostatic processes.
