Nicastrin is an important subunit of the gamma-secretase complex and plays a key role in the endoproteolytic cleavage of integral membrane proteins, including Notch receptors and amyloid-beta precursor protein (APP). In the gamma-secretase complex, nicastin acts as a key regulator of Notch and Wnt signaling cascades and affects downstream processes.
