Ursolic acid is a pentacyclic triterpenoid that is found in plants, such as apple peel. Ursolic acid has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and the constitutive androstane receptor (CAR), two nuclear receptors that are involved in regulating cellular proliferation and inflammation. This compound has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth by blocking these receptors. Ursolic acid also inhibits NF-kappaB, an inflammatory regulator, which may help with inflammatory diseases such as asthma or arthritis.
