Antagonizes the ability of certain osteogenic BMPs to induce osteoprogenitor differentitation and ossification. Initiates signaling cascades by associating with type II receptor ACVR2B to activate SMAD2-dependent and SMAD-independent signaling cascades including TAK1 and JNK pathways.
