Ankaflavin is a reddish pigment produced by Monascus sp. first reported by Manchard and co-workers at London University and Taiwan National University in 1973. Ankaflavin is structurally closely related to monascin. Ankaflavin has cytotoxic, immunosuppressive, hypolipidemic and antiinflammatory properties. Source: Penicillium sp.
