Glial cell linederived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) is a glycosylated, disulfidebonded homodimer that is a distantly related member of the transforming growth factorbeta (TGFbeta) superfamily. It potently promotes the survival of of peripheral and central neurons. It signals through GFRalpha receptors, particularly GFRalpha1.
