Homogentisate 1,2-dioxygenase (HGD) gene mutations are the molecular cause of alkaptonuria, a rare hereditary disorder of the phenylalanine catabolism.

The synthetic peptide sequence used to generate the antibody AP6903a was selected from the N-term region of human HGD. A 10 to 100 fold molar excess to antibody is recommended. Precise conditions should be optimized for a particular assay.
