FECH is localized to the mitochondrion, where it catalyzes the insertion of the ferrous form of iron into protoporphyrin IX in the heme synthesis pathway.

The synthetic peptide sequence used to generate the antibody AP8657a was selected from the N-term region of human FECH. A 10 to 100 fold molar excess to antibody is recommended. Precise conditions should be optimized for a particular assay.
