Gentamicin, an orally active aminoglycoside antibiotic, inhibits the growth of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and to inhibit several strains of mycoplasma in tissue culture. Gentamicin inhibits DNase I with an IC50 of 0.57 mM. The free form of the compound is prone to instability, it is advisable to consider the stable salt form (Gentamicin Sulfate) that retains the same biological activity.
