Saikosaponin C, the active ingredient in Bupleurum, mainly targets amyloid beta and tau proteins in ALZHEIMERs disease. Saikosaponin C inhibited the release of Abeta1-40 and Abeta1-42, and inhibited abnormal tau phosphorylation, but had no effect on BACE1 activity and expression.
