Ophiopogonin D, isolated from the tuber of Ophiopogon japonicus, is a rare naturally occurring C29 steroid glycoside. Ophiopogonin D is a CYP2J3 inducer. By increasing the expression of CYP2J2/EETs and PPARalpha in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), Ophiopogonin D significantly inhibited Ang Ii-induced NF-kappaB nuclear translocation and IkappaBalpha down-regulation. Intracellular Ca2+ overload and activation of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
