Etanercept is a dimer fusion protein that binds tumor necrosis factor (TNF) as a TNF inhibitor. Etanercept competitively inhibits the binding of TNF-alpha and TNF-beta to TNF receptors on the cell surface, rendering tumor necrosis factor biologically inactive.
