Sobetirome is a thyroxine mimetic and a high affinity agonist for the thyroid hormone receptors THR-beta and THR-alpha (KD values 67 and 440 pM, respectively). The in vitro effects on TRalpha1 and TRbeta1 receptors are 5 and 100 times stronger than those of the endogenous agonist T3, respectively.
