Tirapazamine (TPZ,SR-4233, WIN 59075) is the first hypoxia-activated prodrug. Tirapazamine kills hypoxic cells by inducing chromosome aberrations and DNA double-strand breaks. Tirapazamine induced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, and down-regulated HIF-1alpha, CA-IX and VEGF expression.
