Glutathione peroxidase catalyzes the reduction of hydrogen peroxide, organic hydroperoxide, and lipid peroxides by reduced glutathione and functions in the protection of cells against oxidative damage. Human plasma glutathione peroxidase has been shown to be a selenium-containing enzyme and the UGA codon is translated into a selenocysteine. Through alternative splicing and transcription initiation, rat produces proteins that localize to the nucleus, mitochondrion, and cytoplasm. 25 ug of the indicated Human cell extracts was loaded onto a 10-20% SDS-PAGE gel. 3 ug/mL of the antibody was used in this experiment. Recommended dilution for this antibody is 1-3 ug/mL. Recognizes 19 kDa cytoplasmic form in these cell lines, mitochondrial form of 22 kDa appears absent in these samples.
