Sambucus nigra lectin, isolated from elderberry bark, binds preferentially to sialic acid attached to terminal galactose in alpha-2,6 and to a lesser degree, alpha-2,3 linkage. It is available conjugated to biotin and CF Dyes. Deep-red fluorescent CF594 dye has excitation/emission at 593/614 nm.
