Butoconazole nitrate (RS 35887) is a synthetic imidazole antifungal agent that inhibits ergosterol synthesis, disrupting fungal cell membranes. It is used in research for its fungistatic activity against dermatophytes and yeasts, as well as its antibacterial effects against certain gram-positive bacteria, in both in vitro and topical in vivo models.
