Application Notes:
SNAP (79032-48-7) is a stable S-nitroso compound which can be used as a nitric oxide (NO) donor in biological experiments. Its half-life for release of NO in aqueous solutions at pH 7 is 5 hours.1 A comprehensive study on its stability in various physiological contexts has been published.2 In the cardiovascular system SNAP induces vasodilation without inducing tolerance (unlike nitroglycerin).3 In cortical neurons it displays a protective effect after serum deprivation.4 It reverses temozolomide resistance in human glioblastoma.5 It is a useful agent for studying physiological and pharmacological actions of nitric oxide.
