S7 is a peptide identified from a phage display library, which selectively binds to the interleukin-6 receptor (IL-6R) alpha chain (gp80) and inhibits IL-6 mediated events. S7 can inhibit IL-6 induced VEGF-A expression and angiogenesis in different cancer cell lines, and can prevent IL-6 mediated survival signalling and sensitise cervical cancer cells to chemotherapy. S7 is bioavailable in vivo, and can induce apoptopic cell death and suppress IL-6 induced tumour growth in mouse models.
