Dibutyryl-cAMP sodium salt is a cell-permeable analogue of cAMP that activates protein kinase A (PKA), also known as cAMP-dependent protein kinase, and is also a phosphodiesterase inhibitor. Dibutyryl-cAMP sodium salt promotes neurite outgrowth in cell cultures, has anti-inflammatory activity and can be used to promote wound healing. In a cocktail with other agents, dibutyryl-cAMP sodium salt promotes differentiation of neural stem/progenitor cells (NSPCs) and increases survival rates and differentiation into neurons in vivo.
