Ac2-26 is the N terminal fragment of annexin A1 and an annexin/lipocortin 1 mimetic. Ac2-26 can inhibit leukocyte extravasation, reduce neutrophil adhesion and emigration, promote detachment of neutrophils from activated mesenteric endothelium and accelerate epithelial wound repair. Local intestinal delivery of Ac2-26 encapsulated within targeted polymeric nanoparticles accelerates healing of murine colonic wounds after biopsy-induced injury.
