Inhibition of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) is expected to suppress atherosclerotic neointimal proliferation and thus limits atheromatous plaque progression. ONO-4817 suppresses the development of aortic intimal hyperplasia in experimental hyperlipidemic rabbit[1].
