Methyl cholate is a methyl ester of bile acid and sterol esters that can act as supramolecular carriers for aldoses (e.g., glucose, galactose, mannose). Methyl cholate selectively binds to aldoses to form non-covalent complexes and migrates in supported liquid membranes (SLMs), thereby facilitating the transport of sugars. Cholic acid is one of the major bile acids produced by the liver and is synthesized from cholesterol. Methyl cholate can be used to study the selective separation and transport of carbohydrates[1][2][3].
