p-Nitrophenyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside is a chromogenic glycoside ligand. The glycosyl moiety (alpha-D-mannopyranose) of p-Nitrophenyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside has the axial hydroxyl configuration at the C2 position characteristic of mannose, while the ligand moiety (p-nitrophenol) provides ultraviolet-visible light absorption properties. p-Nitrophenyl alpha-D-mannopyranoside is used to determine glycosidase activity and characterize the carbohydrate recognition properties of lectins (e.g., Concanavalin A (HY-P2149)).
