Emtricitabine is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) with an EC50 value of 0.01 µM in PBMC cells. Emtricitabine inhibits HIV reverse transcriptase, preventing RNA from being transcribed into DNA. Emtricitabine has low brain permeability (logP <0)[1][2][3][4][5].
