Antimalarial agent 51 (Compound 2) is an orally active antimalarial compound. Antimalarial agent 51 blocks nutrient uptake by Plasmodium by inhibiting the plasmodium surface anion channel (PSAC). Antimalarial agent 51 significantly inhibits the growth of Plasmodium under nutrient-restricted conditions. Combination of antimalarial agent 51 with the residual transport inhibitor PRT-2 can enhance the antimalarial effect. Antimalarial agent 51 can be used in the study of malaria targeting the PSAC channel[1].
