Mito Red is a cell-permeable small organic mitochondrial dye with red emission. Mito Red accumulates in mitochondria in a mitochondrial membrane potential-independent manner, retains its staining effect during or after cell fixation and detergent permeabilization, and is insensitive to mitochondrial membrane potential uncouplers and ion channel-interfering drugs. Mito Red exhibits anti-photobleaching, anti-concentration quenching and anti-photoconversion properties, and can be used in combination with fluorescent dyes, fluorescent proteins and antibody conjugates for multicolor imaging[1].
