HD5 is a natural lectin-like human defensin-5 (HD5) peptide. HD5 can be secreted by the Paneth cells in the crypts of Lieberkuhn and could interact with glycosylated proteins and lipid components. HD5 competitively blocks ACE2 receptors on the host cells and inhibits SARS-CoV-2 [1].
