The GEMIN6 protein is a component of the SMN complex and is critical for the assembly of small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs), which are essential for spliceosome-mediated pre-mRNA splicing. Most spliceosomal snRNPs share a common set of Sm proteins that form a heptameric protein ring on small nuclear RNAs.
