The KRT18 protein is a heterotetramer with KRT8 that has multiple roles, including uptake of thrombin-antithrombin complexes and assisting in the delivery of mutated CFTR to the plasma membrane. It cooperates with KRT8 in IL-6-mediated barrier protection and interacts with PLEC isoform 1C.
