TECTB protein is a key noncollagenous component of the tegmental membrane of the inner ear that interacts with the stereocilia bundles of sensory hair cells. In response to sound stimulation, the movement of stereocilia relative to the tectorial membrane causes fluctuations in the hair cell membrane potential, converting sound into electrical signals.
