Betacellulin/BTC Protein, a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family, is known to play an important role in regulating growth and differentiation of pancreatic beta cells. And it is a growth factor that binds to EGFR, ERBB4 and other EGF receptor family members. In addition, BTC exerts potent mitogenic effects on retinal pigment epithelial cells and vascular smooth muscle cells as a monomer.
