HLA-G is part of the MHC class I family and plays a key role in immune regulation by presenting antigens to cytotoxic T cells and natural killer cells. Unlike other MHC class I molecules, it exhibits limited polymorphism and tissue-specific expression, including in immune privileged sites and the placenta.
