IL-13 is a cytokine. IL-13 down-regulates proinflammatory cytokine synthesis by partially inhibiting NF-kappa-B. IL-13 induces vascular cell adhesion protein 1/VCAM1 to exert its biological role through its receptor, activating JAK1 and TYK2, thereby activating STAT6.
