6-Bromo-2-naphthyl-beta-D-galactopyranoside is a chromogenic substrate commonly used to measure beta-galactosidase enzyme activity in food, enzyme substrates, and culture media. Upon hydrolysis by beta-galactosidase, it generates a yellow precipitate indicating the enzymes presence.
