Copper (II) pyrithione is a New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase 1 inhibitor. Copper (II) pyrithione inhibits New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase 1 via transmetallation of its zinc (II) cofactor with copper (II). Copper (II) pyrithione exerts cytotoxic effects on pancreatic cancer cells and osteosarcoma cells. Copper (II) pyrithione exhibits antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria and some Gram-negative bacteria. Copper (II) pyrithione can synergistically enhance the activity of beta-lactam antibiotics against beta-lactam-resistant bacteria. Copper (II) pyrithione can be used in studies related to pancreatic cancer, osteosarcoma and bacterial infections[1].
