Saccharic acid is a competitive inhibitor of beta-glucuronidase. Saccharic acid considerably retards hydrolysis of the glucuronide of l-ortho-hydroxyphenylazo-2-naph-thol by frozen mouse kidney sections, but has no effect on liver regeneration following damage and on growth in infant mice[1][2].
