DNA was prepared from cell line WM3061. WM3061 is a metastatic human melanoma cell line. These are small spherical cells that float easily after splitting and require 5% medium to adhere to culture flask. WM3061 cells produce xenograft tumors when injected into immunocompromised mice. This cell line contains a G13R mutation at position 13 in the N-RAS gene. Mutations affecting codon 13 lead to constitutive activation of RAS GTPase and ultimately neoplastic growth. The G13R is a rare NRAS mutation found in melanoma.
