BODIPY 493/503 is a BODIPY based green fluorescent probe, which is a type of fluorescent molecule with boron nitrogen coordination heterocycles as its core structure and strong hydrophobicity. BODIPY 493/503 has both hydrophobicity and lipophilicity. Its non-polar structure makes it difficult to disperse in aqueous solutions, but it can penetrate the cell membrane well and enter the interior of the cell, specifically labeling neutral lipids inside the cell. BODIPY 493/503 hardly emits fluorescence in aqueous solution. When it binds to neutral fats such as triglycerides, it emits bright green fluorescence when excited (maximum excitation wavelength is 493 nm, maximum emission wavelength is 503 nm). BODIPY 493/503 can be used to observe the morphology, distribution, and dynamics of lipid droplets in live cells, fixed cells, and tissue sections.
