Citrate Synthase (CS) (EC 2.3.3.1) is widely present in the mitochondrial matrix of animals, plants, microorganisms, and cultured cells. It is the first rate-limiting enzyme of the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle and one of the major regulatory sites of the cycle.
