Fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (FBP), also known as fructose-1,6-diphosphatase, catalyzes the hydrolysis of fructose-1,6-bisphosphate and water to produce fructose-6-phosphate and inorganic phosphate. It plays a critical role in gluconeogenesis and the synthesis of sucrose from photosynthetic assimilates.
