8(S)-HETE, a major lipoxygenase product in PMA-treated murine epidermis, activates mouse keratinocyte protein kinase C with an IC50 of 100 µM and selectively activates PPARalpha at concentrations as low as 0.3 µM. The stereochemical assignment of the (S) enantiomer is based on comparison of chiral HPLC retention times to published results.
